Change up your evenings

As the holidays approach, there are so many more challenges for those who want to make healthy changes. Making big changes can be overwhelming, but the right small changes can be just as effective, as well as easier to take on.

Consider what you do in the evenings after dinner. The British used to have an expression for a walk after eating. They called it a “constitutional” and this simple habit has a lot of benefits.

It has been statistically proven that walking is one of the best things to speed up a sluggish metabolism. After 5PM the body begins to slow down metabolically. A walk anytime in the evening helps increase metabolism and aid digestion.

In addition, an evening walk can benefit your partner. Women prefer not to walk alone at night, and most partners are willing to take on the role of protector. Walking togehter will give you both a chance to unwind and to communicate. Hold hands and reconnect. You may find this becomes your favorite part of the day.

If you don’t have a partner, go to the mall or a well-lit public area for your walk. Or take your dog. You can keep safe and your pet will love it.

Making time for a half hour walk can make you feel more relaxed. And this can lead to a more enjoyable evening and a better night’s sleep. A lot of benefits for making a small change.
