Lighten Up with Derick!
Backsliding
A family member has been struggling most of her life with weight. Five years ago, she dropped over 30 pounds and looked terrific, better than ever before. Since then, she has gained back 20 of the 30 lbs.
It is easy to backslide, and it can feel discouraging. It is important to change your mind-set to get back on track.
When you drive to a new place the first time you have the added stress of trying to figure out the route. Going there a second time is easier, because you have done it before. The same thing goes for weight loss. You know what works: smart nutrition, exercise and commitment.
In this case, it was easy to figure out where she was going wrong. We went to a Mexican restaurant for brunch. She had a omelet with rice, beans and tortillas. My guess was that she had over 2000 calories on one plate. No one can eat that and not gain weight.
It would be nice to eat whatever you wanted and not gain weight. But that does not work for most of us. One of the first steps in smart nutrition is to be aware of how much you are eating. Then make smarter choices. You may need to write down what you eat and add it up to get a real picture of where you are going wrong. Then you will stop backsliding and move ahead to your goals. Don’t let “it tastes so good” continue to be more important to you than looking your best.
